Go with me
to 1 Peter 5:1-7
Peter is
giving the church instruction. He knows
what he is talking about. He has been
there done that. He discusses the things
of great importance, things we need to know.
“The elders
which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the
sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
V2 Feed the
flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by
constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
V3Neither as
being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
V4 And when
the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth
not away.
V5 Likewise,
ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder.
Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility:
for god resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
V6 Humble
yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due
time:
V7 Casting
all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
Do you
think Peter is talking to Christians? Of
course he is. He is talking to those who
are saved and to those who are filled with the Holy Spirit,
Let’s read
on starting at verse 8
1 Peter
5:8-11
“Be sober,
be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh
about, seeking whom he may devour:
V9 Who
resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are
accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
V10 But the
God of all grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus,
after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen,
settle you.
V11 To Him
be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.
Your true
adversary - Your true enemy is satan.
Sometimes you think your enemy is a person, your husband, your friends, your
boss - but the root of what makes them seem like the enemy is satan himself -
using every open door or devise that you give him.
Why this talk
about satan?
See, when
you get close to Jesus you become satans worst enemy, and he yours. He is out to sift you like wheat through a
sieve."
