Hear what
Jesus says in Matthew 6:31-32
“Therefore
take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? Or, What shall we drink? Or,
Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
V32 (For
after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly
Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
V33 But
seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things
shall be added unto you.”
Jesus
knows that people will seek other than Himself, the Father, the Holy Spirit,
the realm of the kingdom of God.
“Then
certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would
see a sign from Thee.
V39 But
He,(Jesus) answered and said unto them, An evil and
adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to
it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas.”
Jesus
knows that people will seek after a sign.
There are entire denominations built on seeking a sign, but Jesus says
there will be no sign except that of the prophet Jonas/Jonah.
“But
without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6
For
finding the gifts of God, or if you gain the whole world, cannot be compared
with finding God Himself."
